Finnish treats await at Zurich Christmas market

Some of the most delicious dinners in Zurich at Christmas are not in the restaurants but at all the various stands at the Christmas markets around town. One of the most memorable was at a Finnish stand selling flammlachs. Flamm means flame and lachs means salmon. They take large salmon halves and plank them over a big smoky wood fire. While cooking the salmon is sprinkled with salt water. The end result is unlike any salmon you have had. It is smoky moist and full of flavor. They serve it was a tangy yogurt sauce for dipping. Finish your night at the Baileys coffee stand. Take your warming coffee drink, watch the skaters, and just be silly with your friends. The Christmas spirit is so joyful in Switzerland.
