Zeughauskeller – a lively and traditional beer hall in Zurich’s Old Town

A great stop when visiting Zurich is the Zeughauskeller; a convivial beer hall in Zurich that serves many of the classic dishes of the area. The building dates back to 1487 and was used as a Zeughaus or armory to store weapons. Today it is a destination for visitors and locals to enjoy a stein of beer. I ordered the Kalbsgeschnetzeltes, a local speciality of Zurich. It is thin strips of veal sautéed with mushrooms and cream and served with rosti or their version of the best hash browns you have ever tasted. They also offer a variety of delicious sausages and schnitzel. Do call ahead for reservations during the busy holiday season. Prost!
