Breakfast at Brennan’s

While in New Orleans last Friday we were lucky to have had the best breakfast ever – for the record books – ever at Brennan’s on Royal Street. Brennan’s has been a beloved New Orleans classic since 1946. Friday mornings are special there as they open their main dining room to serve both locals and tourists a breakfast experience like no other. Friday breakfast is a celebration. Family and friends meet to make a morning of it. Once settled in your waiter will ask you if you would like an “eye opener”. In New Orleans that is code for a morning cocktail. Think it is too early – not in New Orleans. The dining room is full of patrons enjoying Mimosas, Bloody Marys, and the house speciality Brandy milk punches sprinkled with fresh nutmeg. Order their famous Eggs Sardou with crispy artichokes and parmesan creamed spinach. Maybe some raspberry blintzes with chèvre cheese to share. Don’t forget a big silver carafe of steaming cafe Au lait made with the special New Orleans chicory coffee.

Whatever you do SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! Yes I said dessert for breakfast. This is Brennan’s after all – where the decadent Bananas Foster was created. It is a warm buttery brown sugary banana dessert served over homemade vanilla ice cream. It is made table side expertly by the waiter and then flamed for a show stopping moment. One taste and you will be ruined for life.

Take your time. Spend the morning with a loved one and soak up the elegant atmosphere. You will be glad you did..
